What are GoDaddy's MX records?

GoDaddy's Microsoft 365 mail has no fixed MX host: the value is your own tenant's, from GoDaddy's Email & Office Dashboard. Its SPF record is v=spf1 include:secureserver.net -all.

How to check if a website is hosted on GoDaddy

Look at the site's address, not its nameservers: GoDaddy's websites run on AS26496 and AS398101, while its nameservers answer from GODADDY-DNS (AS44273).

So a domain can use GoDaddy's DNS and be hosted elsewhere, or the other way round. The Hosting Checker reads the address, nameservers, CNAME and headers together.

What are GoDaddy's nameservers?

GoDaddy gives each account its own pair of nameservers on domaincontrol.com, such as ns01 + ns02. Your GoDaddy account lists the two for each domain, and the check on this page reads them from the domain's delegation. Premium DNS moves a domain to a pdnsNN.domaincontrol.com pair; a server of another pair refuses even a GoDaddy zone.

How do I change my nameservers to GoDaddy?

Add DNS Hosting for the domain in your Domain Portfolio, then note the pair GoDaddy gives. Replace the nameservers at the registrar with that pair: the zone isn't active until then. Wait up to 48 hours: GoDaddy says most changes take effect within an hour. Then check the zone with the tool on this page before you switch.

How long does a nameserver change to GoDaddy take?

GoDaddy says up to 48 hours. The real bound is the registry's NS TTL: the .com registry hands out a delegation for 2 days, so some resolvers keep asking the old nameservers that long. Keep the old host's zone answering until then, and compare both zones before deleting anything.

Can I use GoDaddy's DNS without its hosting?

Yes. Its DNS Hosting creates a zone for a domain registered elsewhere: Domain Portfolio → DNS Hosting → Add DNS Hosting. Point the domain's nameservers to the ones GoDaddy gives you, then add the records your site and mail need, since the new zone starts empty. Check it on this page before you switch.

Does GoDaddy support DNSSEC?

Yes, on its own nameservers. GoDaddy signs the zone and manages the keys, with five free DNSSEC credits per account; some country-code domains can't use it. If the domain is registered elsewhere, its registrar has to publish the zone's DS record, or validating resolvers reject it. Turn DNSSEC off before you move the nameservers away from GoDaddy.

What are GoDaddy's MX records?

They belong in the zone wherever the domain's DNS is hosted, so add them at the new host before you move the nameservers, or mail stops.

Is a site hosted on GoDaddy if it uses GoDaddy's nameservers?

Not necessarily: nameservers say where the DNS is, not the website. GoDaddy's nameservers answer from GODADDY-DNS (AS44273), while its web servers are on AS26496 and AS398101. Look up the site's address, or run the Hosting Checker, which matches the address, nameservers, CNAME and headers.

Why does another GoDaddy nameserver say REFUSED for my domain?

GoDaddy keeps each zone on one numbered pair, such as ns01 and ns02.domaincontrol.com for menards.com. A server of another pair, ns21 for example, answers REFUSED even for a domain hosted at GoDaddy, because it serves only its own pair's zones. Set exactly the pair GoDaddy lists for your domain, then check it with the tool on this page.

Are ns01 and ns02.domaincontrol.com GoDaddy's default nameservers?

They are one of GoDaddy's pairs, not a default for everyone. In a sample of 4,000 websites, 140 used domaincontrol.com, spread over 38 numbered pairs between ns01 and ns82. Use the two names your GoDaddy account lists for the domain: a pair copied from another guide may not hold your zone.
