OVHcloud Nameservers

OVHcloud gives each domain its own pair on ovh.net, such as ns10 + dns10 or ns200 + dns200.anycast.me. Your account lists yours; the check below reads it from your domain.

How to point a domain to OVHcloud's nameservers

Add the domain to your OVHcloud account first, then enter the names OVHcloud lists for it at the domain's registrar. Nothing is copied in the switch.

Your visitors keep reaching the old host until resolvers follow the new delegation.

Leaving OVHcloud? Add every record at the new host first, then change the nameservers, and keep OVHcloud's zone answering for the .com referral's 2 days.

  1. 1At OVHcloud

Create a DNS zone for the domain: Web Cloud > DNS zones > Order.

Nothing is copied when the nameservers change: the zone at OVHcloud starts with what you add.

  2. 2At the domain's registrar

Copy its two NS rows from the zone's Target column, then enter them at your registrar.

The highlighted part is your domain's own, from your OVHcloud account; these are laliga.com's.

Is my domain's DNS at OVHcloud?

Ask the pair your domain uses, with recursion off: a zone it holds comes back with the aa flag and its SOA; any other OVHcloud pair answers REFUSED, even for a OVHcloud zone.

The check above does this at every OVHcloud server for your domain, then compares each record with what Google and Cloudflare hand out.

What are OVHcloud's MX records?

OVHcloud mail uses mx0.mail.ovh.net (priority 1), mx1.mail.ovh.net (priority 5), mx2.mail.ovh.net (priority 50), mx3.mail.ovh.net (priority 100), and mx4.mail.ovh.net (priority 200) as its MX records, and mx.ovh.com as its SPF include.

How to check if a website is hosted on OVHcloud

Look at the site's address, not its nameservers: OVHcloud's websites run on AS16276, while its nameservers answer from OVH (AS16276).

So a domain can use OVHcloud's DNS and be hosted elsewhere, or the other way round. The Hosting Checker reads the address, nameservers, CNAME and headers together.

OVHcloud nameservers: FAQ

What are OVHcloud's nameservers?

OVHcloud gives each domain its own pair of nameservers on ovh.net, such as ns10 + dns10 or ns200 + dns200.anycast.me. Your OVHcloud account lists the two for each domain, and the check on this page reads them from the domain's delegation. A pair is two names with one number, such as ns10 + dns10: never mix the servers of two groups.

How do I change my nameservers to OVHcloud?

Create a DNS zone for the domain: Web Cloud > DNS zones > Order. Copy its two NS rows from the zone's Target column, then enter them at your registrar. Wait for the registry update, then up to 48 hours to propagate. Then check the zone with the tool on this page before you switch.

How long does a nameserver change to OVHcloud take?

OVHcloud says up to 48 hours. The real bound is the registry's NS TTL: the .com registry hands out a delegation for 2 days, so some resolvers keep asking the old nameservers that long. Keep the old host's zone answering until then, and compare both zones before deleting anything.

Can I use OVHcloud's DNS without its hosting?

Yes. An OVHcloud DNS zone can be ordered for a domain (Web Cloud > DNS zones > Order) and is activated at the domain's own provider. Point the domain's nameservers to the ones OVHcloud gives you, then add the records your site and mail need, since the new zone starts empty. Check it on this page before you switch.

Does OVHcloud support DNSSEC?

Yes, on its own nameservers. Turn it on in the domain's Security box (Secured Delegation - DNSSEC); it takes 24 hours, and an outside domain gets its keys through the API. If the domain is registered elsewhere, its registrar has to publish the zone's DS record, or validating resolvers reject it. Turn DNSSEC off before you move the nameservers away from OVHcloud.

What are OVHcloud's MX records?

OVHcloud mail uses mx0.mail.ovh.net (priority 1), mx1.mail.ovh.net (priority 5), mx2.mail.ovh.net (priority 50), mx3.mail.ovh.net (priority 100), and mx4.mail.ovh.net (priority 200), with the SPF include mx.ovh.com. They belong in the zone wherever the domain's DNS is hosted, so add them at the new host before you move the nameservers away from OVHcloud, or mail stops reaching the mailboxes.

Is a site hosted on OVHcloud if it uses OVHcloud's nameservers?

Not necessarily: nameservers say where the DNS is, not the website. OVHcloud's nameservers answer from OVH (AS16276), while its web servers are on AS16276. Look up the site's address, or run the Hosting Checker, which matches the address, nameservers, CNAME and headers.

Why does another OVHcloud server refuse my domain?

OVHcloud keeps each zone on one numbered pair, such as ns10 and dns10.ovh.net for laliga.com. Asked live, ns11.ovh.net and ns200.anycast.me answered REFUSED for it, because they serve other groups. OVHcloud warns never to mix the servers of two groups: copy both names of your own pair from the zone's NS rows.

What are ns200.anycast.me and dns200.anycast.me?

They are OVHcloud's DNS anycast servers, assigned automatically when you subscribe to the DNS anycast option, instead of a numbered nsXX and dnsXX.ovh.net pair. They are OVHcloud DNS like the ovh.net and ovh.ca names, but a separate group: a zone on ns200 answers only there, as greenpeace.org does.
